Permaculture site visits PDF Print E-mail

Milkwood Permaculture offers a simple and effective consultancy service for people wanting to put permaculture principles into action on their land. This process is much quicker and cheaper than commissioning a full permaculture design and is often the most effective option for many clients.

This service is of particular value if:

  • You are interested in purchasing a particular property and would like to be sure it will provide for your future needs.
  • You have bought a property and want to improve it, but you are not sure where to start.
  • You are interested in improving the value and productivity of your property and would like to know the most cost effective way to move forward.

Nick specialises in design of the main frame layout of properties including;

  • Water harvesting earthworks to passively drought proof your property.
  • Design of access roads that cost you less money over time.
  • House site placement for comfort, productivity and abundance.
  • Techniques to improve soil, capture carbon and  increase the productivity of agricultural systems.

The service is available for properties within approximately 4 hours travel from Milkwood Farm. This includes most of the greater Sydney area, the Hunter Valley, the Blue Mountains, the Central West of NSW, as well as parts of the Western Region, Riverina and Southern Highlands.

The typical process is:

  1. An initial conversation where you explain to Nick what you want to achieve with the property.
  2. A property walk with you where any specific needs are identified.
  3. Nick then spends some time making observations,  taking measurements and identifying parts of the property with particular potential
  4. A rapid plan of the property is developed showing locations of major elements and identifying the factors that will guide you as you further develop the property.
  5. Finally, Nick spends some time with you outlining his thoughts, answering your questions and explaining your new plan.

The process usually takes between 4 to 6 hours, depending on the size of the property.  This is a minor cost compared to the value that can be added to your investment and the confidence that you will gain to move forward.

"The ecologically-destructive path we are on is as if all of humanity is in a giant car heading towards a brick wall at 100 miles per hour. Everyone in it is arguing about where to sit. Permaculturalists are some of the only ones who know how to put on the brakes and turn the wheel
