Description
Do you want to grow seriously great vegetables in your backyard this Autumn? Are you finding that it's a little harder than you thought to get your beloved seeds from their packets all the way to a super, plentiful harvest?
Join Michael Hewins, Milkwood Farm's market gardener, for 2 days of hands-on knowledge, tips and tricks on how to grow truly awesome backyard vegies using organic permaculture technique. |

This course will cover:
- Vegetable garden design, placement and retrofitting
- Creating great garden soil using DIY, organic techniques
- Raising great seedlings
- Planting techniques for different plant families
- What different vegetable varieties require to grow really well
- Backyard nutrient cycling strategies to ensure enough plant food
- Integrated Pest Management

Michael has a heap of experience in growing many types of annual vegetables in temperate and sub-tropical environments, and has particular enthusiasm and knowledge for managing and preventing pests and plant diseases with good garden management and biodiversity. He can help you get activated about taking your organic veggie production from zero to hero, using easy and effective nutrient cycling and soil building techniques that complement his years of experience with planting plans to ensure a bountiful harvest. |

This class will be approximately half class time and half garden time, so arrive expecting to get your hands dirty! You will leave this course with a competent working knowledge of how to either begin or immediately improve your vegie garden, as well as sample seeds and lots of course notes. The majority of this course's content applies to year-round growing for the greater Sydney region, with additional notes and tricks for planting and growing great vegies in Summer. |

About the teachers:Michael Hewins is an organic market gardener with a background in permaculture, organic agriculture and horticulture and has a wide knowledge of how to grow high quality, healthy food. He's run his own Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme in the northern rivers of NSW and has a great working knowledge of organic vegetable growing in both temperate and subtropical environments.
Michael is in charge of Milkwood Farm's market garden production and education. |

Your course fee includes free samples of seeds and organic nutrients that are perfect for getting your spring vegies going. You will also receive comprehensive notes, info sheets and resources to back up what you have learned.
Your course fee also includes organic fruit, tea and coffee throughout your course. For lunches, we usually put in a join order to Love Grub, a great cafe around the corner selling organic sandwiches and sushi. Or feel free to bring your own.
Once you've booked into this course, we will contact you via email regarding your booking, what to bring along with you, and any further info you might need or request regarding this course.

Description
   
Our Sydney course venue is Alexandria Park Community Centre, set in the grounds of Alexandria Community School, on the corner of Park Road and Power Avenue. This amazing place has multiple thriving community gardens, school gardens, a bush tucker garden and outdoor classroom learning areas. Venue MAP. Getting there by Train: The venue is 15 minutes walk from Redfern Station. Take the Gibbons St exit and continue south. Gibbons St will become Wyndham St, and soon you will reach Alexandria Park on your right. Cut through the park to the corner of Park Rd and Power Avenue, and there you are. Cityrail website.
Getting there by Bus: The 370 and 355 bus routes run along McEvoy St, one block from the venue. Sydney Buses website.
Parking: There is ample street parking around the school.
