Description

| Fri 8th March, Melbourne: Gardening Like the Forest: Home-Scale Ecological Food Production
This introductory talk with world-leading forest garden designer, educator and ecologist Dave Jacke provides an overview of the forest gardening vision and a few living examples, and then dives deep into the essence, spinning out some of the broader implications of ecological design science for human culture design.
Healthy forests maintain, fertilize, and renew themselves, naturally. Wouldn’t you like to grow an abundant food-producing ecosystem like this in your backyard? You can!

Edible forest gardens mimic the structure and function of natural forests through all their stages of development and grow food, fuel, fiber, fodder, fertilizers, farmaceuticals, and fun. We can meet our own needs and regenerate healthy ecosystems at the same time!
6:00pm - doors open
6:30pm - Dave Jacke presentation and Q&A

While not required reading for this event, we highly recommend Edible Forest Gardens by Dave Jacke and Eric Toensmeier as an exceptional set of reference books on this subject.
"This comprehensive two-volume book constitutes an in-depth course in ecological garden design. Written in a passionate, clear, and engaging style, it integrates the vision and ecology of forest gardening with practical design, establishment, and management strategies. While Edible Forest Gardens was written as an integrated whole, each volume can stand alone as valuable learning tools and references."
