Learn how to grow delicious oyster and shiitake mushrooms at home, organically! This hands-on workshop will take you through the basics of home mushroom propagation using recycled materials, and introduce you to the fascinating world of fungi. Growing your own mushrooms is a fabulous way to broaden your family's home-grown nutrition, and has many benefits for your nearby garden as well. In this workshop Will Borowski will cover the basics of home mushroom propagation as well as two specific techniques for growing two different types of mushrooms that you can do in your own home with minimal equipment, and using recycled materials. Will Borowski's approach is perfect for permaculture-minded gardeners. Will uses minimal intervention with his mushroom propagation and focuses on creating resilient strains of mycelium which can better handle natural environments, rather than the climate-controlled approach of conventional mushroom propagation. This workshop includes a host of take-home mushroom resources to get you growing. This workshop covers:
About your teacher:Will Borowski's family name means 'forest mushroom gatherer' in Polish. Need we say more. Will has been working with fungi and mushrooms for over 10 years throughout Australia and is committed to raising awareness about how home mushroom propagation can benefit a family's nutrition and help create healthier meals. Will also sees mushroom awareness as an important educational tool for teaching kids and adults alike about the crucial role that fungi plays in our soils and ecosystems, helping to cycle important nutrients and playing a myriad of other important roles. Will runs the Forest Fungi website. About this workshop:This workshop runs from 9am - 1pm on Sunday 26th June. Complimentary tea, coffee and organic fruit included in your workshop fee. Description
Our Sydney course venue is Alexandria Park Community Centre, set in the grounds of Alexandria Community School, on the corner of Park Road and Power Avenue. This amazing place has multiple thriving community gardens, school gardens, a bush tucker garden and outdoor classroom learning areas. Venue MAP. Getting there by Train: The venue is 15 minutes walk from Redfern Station. Take the Gibbons St exit and continue south. Gibbons St will become Wyndham St, and soon you will reach Alexandria Park on your right. Cut through the park to the corner of Park Rd and Power Avenue, and there you are. Cityrail website. Getting there by Bus: The 370 and 355 bus routes run along McEvoy St, one block from the venue. Sydney Buses website. Parking: There is ample street parking around the school.
